SaaS blogs are useful, there’s no doubt about it. In the information age, there’s no end to the value of knowledge and good journalism. Knowledge is power, more so than it has ever been before. In light of that, the way journalism works has changed greatly in the past ten years, with blogs (powered by people in the relevant fields, or by every man writers who speak the language of the common people) quickly pushing corporate media outlets out of the spotlight.
SaaS is no exception, with countless blogs by all sorts of people being published daily or even hourly in some cases. It’s an information overload, but one we can’t admittedly live without now. But, the question becomes, with the downpour of information, which ones are the best? We don’t have time in our busy lives to read every piece of information even in one very selective field. Surely some SaaS blogs are better than others, or at least more pertinent when the tax master of time breathes down our necks?
Yes, there are some that, in a time crunch, are more critical or at least worthy of time than others. We’re going to look at the top 5 blogs dealing with SaaS. The rules are simple, they must be not be inter-affiliated, and they must be about SaaS, not have just one post in their archives that touch on the subject. We also want to take a moment to mention that if a blog doesn’t make it on this list, that doesn’t mean it’s not a fantastic blog.
#1 – Chaotic Flow
Chaotic Flow is a blog written by Joel York, dealing with SaaS marketing, logistics and concepts as well as the closely-related field of cloud infrastructure. Mr. York has 15 years of experience in software marketing with a wide array of multinational corporations, and it shows.
The fantastic thing about this blog is that Mr. York touches on subjects in the form of questions, where he often describes in layman’s and advanced terms simultaneously what concepts and terminology in SaaS and marketing actually are. Not only is he a great source for learning new terms and aspects of SaaS, but when faced with a term you are not familiar with, an interrogative Google search will 9 out of 10 times lead you to this informative blog.
#2 – SaaSBlogs
SaaSBlogs has a very self-explanatory name, and it’s deserving of it. Despite sounding like a generic blog, this is a very directed and powerful SaaS discussion outlet for a few reasons. Sourcing publications from countless experts in marketing and SaaS design with much experience, SaaSBlogs focuses mostly on one key thing.
It proposes challenges, and defends challenged ideas in SaaS. This is the blog to inspire you to think and rethink strategy and how you value a concept in SaaS. It will inspire you to new solutions, and to reconsider ones you otherwise may have dismissed. This is one to keep an eye on.
#3 – ZDNet’s SaaS Blog
ZDNet? You bet. ZDNet has been a leading source of software journalism (as well as freeware distribution) since the 1990s, and they are still going strong. Never overlooking a chance to expose new concepts and technologies to an eager world, ZDNet’s software blogs now include a frequently updated and very rich SaaS blog as well.
The unique thing is that it has that distinctive ZDNet absence of bias. It questions and considers strategies the big companies are attempting in SaaS as well as highlights new and interesting services or technologies in the field that everyone should look at.
ZDNet is often prophetic, so this is one of the SaaS blogs to definitely read frequently.
#4 – Everything SaaS
Everything SaaS is a no frills and by the books journalism outlet for SaaS with a no nonsense and fact-saturated approach. This one is for those who truly love SaaS and eat, drink and breathe the industry.
This is a professional blog that covers technical concepts, problems and revolutions in the industry in a very professional journalistic manner. It’s not for those who merely dabble in SaaS, nor those new to the field, but for those diehard SaaS’ers, it’s a must-read.
#5 – PrudentCloud
PrudentCloud is a referral blog for cloud computing and SaaS which is absolutely fantastic for research and as a hub to find further reading and informative articles without sifting through the search engines’ muck and mire.
ProudentCloud is a top research source for many published SaaS bloggers and authors who are highly respected, and who in turn all proudly point to this blog as a place to go for further reading or just casual learning and inspiration.
These are just five of the thousands of SaaS blogs out there, but in a time crunch, these are the ones to get the most bang for your time from, hands down.
